What Are You Starving For?
This week I’m on a juicing fast and while running errands, I left my juices at home. Needless to say, about 30 minutes into ripping and running I was FAMISHED. Walking down the isles of Sprouts, a little voice in my head whispered, “Just take a little taste of that hot and ready baked potato soup. A little bite won’t make a difference.” Somehow, I evaded that temptation but then I was met with, “Just run through chick-fil-a. No one is judging you. You can start again tomorrow. You’re starving! It’s okay to take a little break. ” After mulling this over for longer than I’d like to admit, the fog cleared and the haze lifted. I realized how much I was willing sacrifice because of hunger. I was willing to neglect my goals, lower my standards, and do something I’d never thought I’d do just to satisfy the feeling of starvation.

Although you may not be fighting physical hunger like I was, we all hunger for something. You may be so starved for love that you are dating someone you never thought you would. Did you lower your standards or neglect the holy spirit telling you, “NOT HIM SIS!” Are you so hungry for acceptance you are hanging out with friends who pull you down spiritually? Are you compromising and acting in ways unbecoming of yourself? What are you starving for? More importantly, what standards have you lowered, what goals have you neglected, and what things have you done that you never thought you’d do, because you looked to other flawed people and the world to fill you up.
.
The beautiful end to this story is that God created hunger. Not only physical, but emotional hunger. He created it so that He could be the one to fill us and keep us full! If you have been looking to the wrong source for satisfaction, you are binge eating air. Your hunger will not be satisfied long-term and you will continue to compromise. We’ll never feel the sweet sensation of God-given “itis” if we don’t turn to Him alone and allow him to fill us up.

John 6:35-38 Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever. ”
