No Effort, No Reward
We are potty training right now. (Prayers welcomed) Anytime that Ellie goes #2, she gets a dum dum lolli pop. But of course, in true Ellie form, she goes #1 and yells, “LOLLLLY POPPPP!!!!,” expecting a reward without the effort, expecting a blessing without fulfilling her commitment. That’s not how it works girl.
I’m guilty as charged of not always being faithful to the work God has given me to do, but praying for a blessing anyway… that’s not how it works girl. In Ruth 2:6-9, Ruth was working tirelessly to pick up fallen grain behind the laborers of a field. So much so, that her hard work caught the attention of the overseer, who spoke of her work ethic when Boaz (her future man) asked who she was. What did Boaz do at the mention of her hard work? He commanded his servants pull extra stalks to leave for her to pick up (Ruth 2:16). She wasn’t sitting at home praying grain would show up on her porch. She was out there being committed and persistent and was blessed with more.
Colossians 3:23-25 (MSG) Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance.
Be committed, be persistent, be faithful to God with what he has put in front of you, knowing that God rewards faithfulness to Him.
