Loving Those Around You
“I’m just doing me, me myself & I, minding my own business, Looking out for #1.” Satan has done a number on our society to make us believe that we are supposed to be our number one priority. God did not call us to love ourselves. He called us to love others LIKE we love ourselves.lol He knew loving ourselves would come naturally. He called us to love those in our family, other believers. Our community.
When I was in jr. high, I told a lie to one of my best friends, Aaqila. I don’t remember what the lie was but she found out. Instead of saying “You know what, I have to weed out people in my life that aren’t good for me.” She pulled me aside quietly and said, “I know that you lied and it’s not okay. Truth is what God has asked of us. If you continue to walk down this path we can’t be as close.” She approached me lovingly, told me what God expects of me, and set a personal boundary. I remember that conversation to this day because that’s the community God wants for us. That’s what loving your neighbor as yourself looks like. .
Don’t let the devil fool you into thinking you’re supposed to put yourself first over everything and everyone. Love on someone in your community today, there’s lots of ways to do it.
1 Corinthians 4-6 (MSG) “Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best,
Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.”
