Ellie Cut Her Hair!

After putting Ellie to bed 2 weeks ago, she called me into her room where even in the dark something looked awry. As I turned to flick on the light I was hoping what I thought had happened, hadn’t. But sure enough, when I turned to face her in the light, a large patch of hair was missing from the right side of her head. After shrieking hysterically (not the best mom moment for me) I ran to get Josh. ⁣

I could drag on the series of events, but the bottom line is that there was no evidence of cut hair or scissors in sight and when asked where both the missing hair and scissors were, she stuck to her story that she didn’t have any scissors and didn’t know what hair we were referring to (although the nearly bald patch on the right side of her head said otherwise). After wrestling off the covers, which were pulled up to her chin, I found the dull school scissors in her purse and the larger than fist sized ball of hair hidden behind her bed. I shrieked again. All that said, the past few weeks have been a gargantuan effort on my part to cover up the nearly bald patch on nearly the whole upper right side of her head which she managed to cut off with dull child scissors. ⁣ ⁣
In the end, she was punished for lying. (Which was all Josh’s doing because if I was at the helm of that discipline session, she would have been punished for cutting off all my hard wor...ehem, her hair. So Josh was a better parent that day.) ⁣

Many things have astounded me through all of this, including how much effort she put into smuggling the scissors from school in the 1st place! She doesn’t have pockets in her uniform so she had to get creative in taking those scissors and getting them to her room. To be honest, we still don’t know how she did it! But ultimately, no matter how she got them, it hurts me that a weakness of hers (stealing) overtook her own love for her hair! She became an enemy to her own self. Praise God it was only her hair that came off.⁣

The enemy has been doing this longer and he’s better than you think. Why would he come dressed as a monster to tempt us when he can use us against ourselves?

We have the power to destroy the things we love, on our own, if we aren’t actively fighting the enemy with the Truth that is the word of God. Ellie has been asking me for scissors for weeks. She knows she can’t use them without an adult, but her desire to have scissors without supervision evolved into her stealing them. In the end she only succeeded in thieving herself of her own hair which she LOVES to swing, play with, and change into different styles. God sees us as his children and when He says, “no” to us in His word, it’s to protect us from ourselves. Take up the word of God as armor and a weapon to fight every sinful thought, which can turn into sinful action and result in your own self demise. Don’t let the enemy use you to be your own worst enemy. ⁣

Ephesians 6:11 God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.⁣
